My last Ulva Tour before Christmas saw me over there with a Brit couple living is Australia. Daughter Anne is down for Christmas and she came across with us to see the Hunter Family (who own the private land on Ulva) and as well to enjoy the Ulva Island walks.
Just after leaving Boulder Beach with my guests we were told a kiwi had been seen behind us on the track, and there it was. Great excitement for my guests as well several other walkers. My guests had actually seen one on the roads in the village the night before, which I understand is actually happening quite often.
When we got back to the wharf to leave Anne re-joined us, together with one of the Hunter Family. Great Excitement from Karen (who is actually Irish) as she’d spent all her holidays walking the tracks in the hope of seeing one, and finally successful.
Probably around 30 people actually saw that bird that day….
