North Stewart Island Scenic Flight
Last year in late February we chartered Stewart Island Flights for a scenic journey around Stewart Island. see blog post here. We took good friends from Switzerland with us. While we had intended to circumnavigate the whole Island conditions as we progressed up the west side of the Island became a little too hazy for photography and so we cut the flights short, with the idea of doing it when they next visited.
The weather this year when they arrived was not really suitable, but while I was guiding on Ulva on the 1st March the day just got better and better, and so Flights bought their Cessna 185 across, and we completed the project.
The photos taken on both flights were for our ongoing project on “Island Place Names” and will, in time help to expand what we already have there.

I arrived on Stewart Island in 1969 as Forest Ranger. Since then I've fished commercially both in Fiordland and around Stewart Island then skippered our charter yacht in the same waters, and also down into the Southern Ocean. More recently we now have "Sails Ashore" B&B, and I also guide our guests and others on Ulva Island, introducing them to the natural world of Stewart island
