Surveillance Camera
From time to time we see evidence of nocturnal visitors… deer hoof prints, kiwi poop and so on. So we invested in a couple of surveillance cameras. Mostly all we are recording is rain drops, and moths, but occasionally we strike something interesting. A few weeks ago what we think was a bat. And last night very definitely a weta. Almost certainly a tree weta, as we are far too far south for the real biggies I used to find around Rotorua and the northern South Island

I arrived on Stewart Island in 1969 as Forest Ranger. Since then I've fished commercially both in Fiordland and around Stewart Island then skippered our charter yacht in the same waters, and also down into the Southern Ocean. More recently we now have "Sails Ashore" B&B, and I also guide our guests and others on Ulva Island, introducing them to the natural world of Stewart island
